How Do I Stop the Equation Tool From Formatting Something?

This question most often occurs when someone is trying to type a word such as "and" or "there" and the tool insists on formatting it into an intersection symbol or θere.  By enclosing a section of your equation in quotes ("and" and "there") you prevent the tool from formatting that part of the equation.

Please note that this is much less of an issue when using FX Autoquate automatic equations.
